Writing a Resume
Your resume is the first impression a company will have of you. Make sure your grammar, spelling and format are perfect before submitting it to a prospective employer.
Some simple resume tips to help you look good on paper:
1
Make sure your name, address, email and phone number are clear and current.
2
If you have an objective, make it relevant to the job for which you are applying. If it is too vague, it is meaningless.
3
Put your education next, only if it is recent or is important for the job for which you are applying.
4
List your most recent job first, your work dates, and your job duties. Then list your other work experiences continuing from most recent.
5
Add a “special skills section” if you are proficient in particular software programs or in an area not mentioned in the body of your resume.
6
An optional item is to add your personal interests; it’s a good conversation starter. Also, include your volunteer experiences. This section “rounds” you out.
7
You should not mention your marital status, age, race, religion, height or weight.
8
Try to keep it to one page if possible. Use light colored paper for a more professional look.
