Preparing For Your Temp

When you call for a temporary employee it’s usually because you have someone out, a special project that needs to get done or an overload of work that’s drowning you or someone on your staff. Sometimes you have plenty of time to prepare for your temp, but sometimes you have less than an hour. Whatever your time frame, here are a few ideas that could help make your day (AND the temp’s) more productive.

1
Have a list of personnel & their extensions on the desk so the temp can have easy access to company names.
2
Have a “typical day” typed up for everyone’s desk so a temporary can have an idea of what is expected.
3
If you are the temp’s supervisor, make sure you (or someone) take some time to show him/her bathrooms, coffee machines, supply rooms, etc.
4
Assign a “buddy” (if you can’t be available) whom the temporary can go to if questions arise.
5
Explain how you want the phones answered-write your greeting down so they have it handy.
6
Check in with your temp frequently, especially on the first day, to see how things are going.
7
Keep your expectations realistic. We often forget how stressful the first day of a job can be.
8
If, during the first day, you have a concern about our employee’s performance, please call us immediately.

We will check in with you at the end of the day to make sure the day has gone well.
